How to Use

To maintain a beautiful and healthy hair, it needs care from both inside and outside. While Spirulina can be taken in the form of capsules or powder, here are some tips to use it externally.

Shampoo made out of Spirulina cleanses and nourishes the hair. It can be used for all hair types.

Method 1: The Spirulina Egg Shampoo

Mix a whole egg, 2-3 tablespoons of milk, ½ teaspoon of Spirulina powder and 3 drops of Lavender essential oil. After whisking the ingredients thoroughly, wet the hair and use it like any normal shampoo. You can finally rinse the hair thoroughly after adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to the rinsing water.

Method  2: The Spirulina Avacado Shampoo

This DIY shampoo brings shine to the hair and rejuvenates the hair follicles. Take Shampoo, filtered water and avocado in the ratio of 1:1:2, add ½ teaspoon of Spirulina and blend it thoroughly till it is smooth. Wet hair and apply the prepared shampoo. Rinse thoroughly and use a hair conditioner as usual.

Method 3: Spirulina Hair Pack

This DIY product is a hair pack used to treat dry hair. The ingredients are as follows:

Whole Egg                             – 1

Olive oil                                  – 3 to 4 teaspoons

Yoghurt (Natural)                – 3 teaspoon

Honey                                    – ½ teaspoon

Spirulina                               – ½ teaspoon

Essential Oil                        – 3 to 4 drops

Blend all the above ingredients and apply on the hair. Leave it for 20 minutes. Shampoo the hair and rinse thoroughly.

Method 4: Spirulina Hair Loss Treatment Pack

This DIY pack is for treating hair loss. The ingredients are

Avocado Oil                              – 2 tablespoons

Wheat Germ Oil                      – 1 tablespoon

Whole Egg                                – 1

Spirulina                                   – ½ teaspoon

Essential Oil                             – 3 to 4 drops

Mix these ingredients and massage them into the scalp gently. Wrap the hair in a hot towel and leave it for 20 minutes. Rinse off after applying shampoo. If necessary, rinse it twice.

Spirulina is an excellent food supplement loaded with plenty of nutrients and benefits associated with it. No side effects have been reported in using Spirulina but it does not mean there are no adverse effects. Use after testing the product for allergy, in a particular area of skin.

  1. I can’t say that I’ve heard of this before! I’m always looking for ways to make my hair healthier so I may have to look into this a bit more!

  2. For one who has to struggle with natural African hair like me, getting it to grow fast is always an issue so at times, I even cut it! But Spirulina looks like an effective solution; it’s my first time hearing about it and I ‘m loving it already!

    This post reminded me that I bought spirulina powder a couple of months ago and haven’t used it yet! When Spirulina first became popular I took capsules and it really helped with boosting energy levels, but I never knew it helped for hair growth too.
